A portable power station usually combines a battery, inverter, charging electronics and outlets in one unit. Here, “inverter system” means a separate inverter and battery installation. The categories overlap: some power stations accept extra batteries, and some inverter systems are packaged as compact units.
Compare the things you will actually live with

Do not compare watts with watt-hours
Two products can both have 1,000 W output and completely different runtimes. Compare nominal Wh, usable energy and losses for duration; compare continuous W and startup requirements for appliance compatibility.
As a manufacturer-specification example, EcoFlow lists the DELTA 2 with 1,024 Wh capacity and 1,800 W total AC output on its European product page. These are different measurements. Use the runtime calculator to compare energy assumptions. For each shortlisted model, verify the local version, voltage, plugs, warranty and exact specifications with the supplier.
Your charging window can decide the purchase
Tell the seller how long electricity is usually available between outages. Ask how long that exact unit takes to recharge while supporting your normal load. A quoted no-load recharge time may not describe your use.
If you want solar charging, check the permitted input voltage, current, power, connector and panel compatibility in the manual. Solar input support does not mean any panel can be connected. Roof mounting or fixed wiring introduces installation and landlord-permission questions.
Check what “UPS” means for that model
Do not assume a power station or inverter will keep every device online during a supply change. Ask for documented transfer time and supported uses, then verify with your equipment. A router restarting during a call may defeat the purpose of a work backup even if the battery has plenty of energy.
Compare the complete cost in naira
Request written, dated quotes. Include equipment, delivery, cables, protection, installation where needed and any compulsory service charges. A cheaper box can become a more expensive working setup after the missing items are added.
For installment offers, calculate the deposit plus all repayments and fees. Ask about warranty coverage during repayment, late-payment restrictions and when ownership transfers. This guide does not assume a current price or approve a particular financing provider.
A practical choice for three situations
- You mainly need a laptop and internet: calculate their combined energy first. Compare suitable DC or USB output options as well as AC, checking compatibility.
- You also need fans and lights: make an eight-hour load list and compare both setup types at the same capacity, output and charging ability.
- You want to power household circuits or add large loads: obtain an installation assessment. Do not extrapolate a desk-backup example to a whole flat.
Manufacturer installation requirements matter. For example, Victron’s Inverter Smart manual specifies qualified installation. Follow the actual equipment manual and use a qualified installer for household electrical work.
